Cheesy Hash Brown Steak
Cheesy Hash Brown Steak is a great way of sneaking
breakfast into your dinner or dinner into your breakfast. With a juicy steak
topped with crispy, cheesy hash browns for extra heartiness and home
comfort—what’s not to love? The perfect summer meal that is jumping with garlic
and onion flavors. Cheesy Hash Brown Steak is the main course and side all in
one, with the flavours melding into magnificence.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups frozen shredded hash brown
potatoes, thawed
- 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
- 200 grams 3 yr Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 (1.5-pound) beef top sirloin steak,
1-inch thick and cut into 4 portions
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, minced
Preparation and Cooking:
- Preheat the grill to medium heat.
- In a large skillet, heat the butter
over medium-high heat.
- Add the onion and cook until tender,
about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the garlic and cook until golden,
about 2 minutes.
- Stir in the hashbrowns and 1/4 teaspoon
salt, spreading both in an even layer in the skillet.
- Reduce the heat to medium and cook for
5 minutes undisturbed.
- Flip the hashbrowns and cook, covered,
until heated through and the bottom is lightly browned, for about 5-6 minutes.
- Sprinkle the Cheddar cheese over the
top of the hash browns.
- Cover the hashbrowns and keep warm, off
of the heat.
- Season the beef with the remaining 1/2
teaspoon salt and pepper.
- Grill the beef until it reaches the
desired level of doneness, reading 135 degrees F for medium-rare, 140 degrees F
for medium, and 145 degrees F for medium-well when tested with a meat
thermometer, about 5-7 minutes on each side.
- Remove the steaks from the heat and top
each portion with 1/4 of the hashbrowns.
- Garnish with the chives and serve.
